Letter to Harrison

Harrison isn't even two yet, so I know that everything that will go on in the next few days will be a big and confusing adjustment to him. I had wanted to write him a letter so that when he gets older, he will know how we feel about him becoming a big brother. It took me a while to write it, through all the tears. I'd like to blame it on the pregnancy, but I don't think that had anything to do with it. :)

Dear Harrison,

Here we are, my sweet boy. At this point in my pregnancy, I can't help but look back to what it was like two years ago with you. All the emotions. The nerves. The excitement.  I was so ready to welcome you into the world. To kiss you. To hold you. To watch you grow.
I feel all the same things now, but there is something quite different this time...a feeling of fear.
The fear of not knowing what's to come.  The fear of not knowing how it will change your life. The fear of not knowing if you'll fully comprehend the joy and the reason behind why we chose to bring another life into this family.
I would never want you to go through life thinking you aren't enough. That our life wasn't full of happiness and love with you. Because believe me, sweet boy, your life is more than we could've ever dreamed.
I would hope you know that your Mama did this for you. I know how important it is to have a sibling. To have someone to share a bond. To share memories with and to grow up together.
I hope you know that bringing your brother into the world does not mean that we will love you less.  You will always be our first born, our love. You made us into parents.
I'm not going to sit here and go into your role as a big brother. I know that you will be the most kind, loving and gentle big brother.  You have such a warm heart, and you amaze us everyday with the amount of love you share with us all.  I know the same will be felt by your baby brother.  I want to thank you right now for who you are.
I know that everything is going to be great. I know that our family will be together, and pretty soon, we will be bringing your baby brother home. I can't wait for the new life to begin for all of us.
So, again, I want to thank you,  For your smiles.  For your joy and laughter you bring into our lives and soon, your brother's life.  You are truly and amazing little boy, and we are so thankful to be your parents.
We love you, love you, love you more with each day.
Love,
Daddy and Mama
